Google India started Google SMS Channels, an excellent service for their users to subscribe to latest alerts on news, stocks, jokes, scores and many more through SMS text messages. That is if you want to subscribe to the Google News through sms messages you may join that sms channel at http://labs.google.co.in/smschannels/channel/GoogleNews.
Google SMS Channels also enables its users to create a group of their own and let their subscribers be communicated with the updates through SMS messages. Friends and family members also can use this service to keep connected with each other by creating private sms channels.
This service is available for the users using mobile networks in india only. And another good thing with Google SMS Channels is you don’t have to pay for sending or receiving the messages through the service. But to publish to a channel using your own mobile you will be charged by your mobile operator as per its standard SMS tariff.
You can use this service through the website or your mobile also. Google uses a number 9870807070 to communicate via your mobile with sms messages. You also can search for a particular sms channel by sending ‘SEARCH’ to 9870807070. You may unsubscribe to any sms channel any time by sending ‘OFF <channel name>’ to 9870807070 from your mobile phone.
Google is providing this service with multilingual support enabling to message in English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada languages.

I felt very excellent reading this blog about Google SMS Channels service, but felt a bit disinterested to have this service not available in my country. I think google will soon launch SMS channels in my country too.
